Chaldean - changing name question

I learned of numerology a couple of years ago and became very interested in Chaldean. I've studied it extensively ever since. There is something that is bothering me and I'm not sure what I can do about it; the combination of my "known" first/last name is not a good number (35). However, my "given" first (Christian) name in combination with my last name, is 42 (known first name is Doug, given name is Douglas).
I'm 37 years old, so it is not likely that family and friends who have known me my whole life, as well as my colleagues, are going to start calling me a different name. From my Cheiro research, I understand it to mean that I can't just sign my name a certain way, I also have to be known by that specific name.
My birthdate is the 28th, which makes me a 1. I could leave my first name as Doug, add my middle initial (R) to my signature, and my full name would equal 37, but would that mean people would have to start calling me "Doug R"? Also "Douglas" (27) is a better number than "Doug" (20), but not for my particular birthdate, according to Cheiro.
I'm extremely confused on this one. I want the best name I can have, but I don't want to make a mistake. Can someone give me an educated solution? Serious answers only, please.

@Sundance1,
Essentially you have two distinct choices. Stay with your name as Doug, thereby accepting the numbers you currently have or determine to change your name fully to Douglas in your daily living and interactiions and live your life with those numbers. You really cannot have it both ways. Perhaps if you had an equal split between being known as and using the names Doug and Douglas it would be different.

@Sturgis,
Thank you for your reply. In your opinion, which name do you think is better, based on my birthdate being 28? Also, in reply to your comment about having an "equal split", I may need to add that all my accounts & licenses (bills, checking account, driver license, passport, etc.) is listed as "Douglas". Does that make a difference, or fit in to what you are referring to as an equal split?
