Johnboy can't think of anything clever to post in terms of poetry to celebrate the birthday of my friend, Letty. All I can offer, if A2K cooperates, is that this, my 1000th post here, goes to Letty:
Red clay, sticky red clay of Virginia that sticks to your shoes and colors your clothes. You can move away, you can move away for a lifetime, but there is always that clay that is in your memory. Good memories, or perhaps bad, but always there is the red clay of your youth.

Yes, Andy, quite lovely, but not sad. Hey, I even drink the same hooch as young George did-- Jim Beam. <smile> and besides that, I got carded this afternoon. So there.

But wait a moment. It's waaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyy past my bed time. UhOh.

With love from Letty.

ah, John of Virginia. You are so right.

Down in the hills of old Virginia,
Down where the mountains reach the sky,
There is my home,
There's my old county.
There let me live until I die.

See the Rockfish river rollin'
Hear it tumble, smell its foam,
See the trees whose lace surrounds it,
For that old county is my home.

Thank you all.......................................................................

Good Morning, my friends.

Today is officially my birthday and we're back on standard time.

Hey, Soz and eoe. Many thanks for the well wishes. I'm going to spend my birthday right here and hand out treats to the little kids who come knocking. I have the perfect costume, and John Bush will appreciate this. I own a beautiful pair of chinese pajamas with intricately brocaded dragons and such. They are black and lined in gold silk. I am very proud to own those PJ's and they look bewitching. <smile>

Happy, Happy!!!

A poem for the day:

IT'S HALLOWEEN

It's Halloween! It's Halloween!
The moon is full and bright
And we shall see what can't be seen
On any other night.

Skeletons and ghosts and ghouls,
Grinning goblins fighting duels,
Werewolves rising from their tombs,
Witches on their magic brooms.

In masks and gowns
we haunt the street
And knock on doors
for trick or treat.

Tonight we are
the king and queen,
For oh tonight
it's Halloween!

~Jack Prelutsky~

A final verse of my own:

Not wishing to sound
Trite and petty
Happy Birthday
To our Letty!

Letty
Letty is pretty,
pretty is Letty
Sweeter than candy,
Letty is dandy
Letty is charming,
disarming is Letty
Funny and cheerful,
Letty is mirthful
Letty being Letty,
makes us greatful

Happy Birthday, Letty
