Tony Romo is a free agent. The Texans traded Brock Oswieler to the Browns. While I support the Texans' quest for a QB, I hope they pass on Romo. He gets hurt too often, for one thing.

@edgarblythe,

Cousins, who asked the 'skins to trade him, is another option...

Tony Romo apparently thought he’d been told he would released. Apparently, the message simply was that he won’t be on the team in 2017.

As the Cowboys wait for a trade offer that may never come, Romo has posted a video on Instagram thanking fans for the support and saying “we have a lot to think about here going forward.”

He spoke with Bob Dylan’s The Times They Are A-Changin’ playing in the background.

The teams they are a changing for Romo, presumably. The question becomes whether the Broncos, Texans, or anyone else would give the Cowboys anything for Romo. John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reports the Texans would be interested, but only if Romo is released.

That could be a bluff by the team. Indeed, if they’ll give up a second-round pick to get rid of Brock Osweiler, what would they surrender to get Romo?

The Broncos presumably won’t offer anything for Romo, which means that the Cowboys will have to decide how long to wait. Once the offseason program opens, Romo can show up at the facility for workouts. And if he gets injured on the premises and can’t play this year, the Cowboys will owe him his full $14 million salary for 2017.

@edgarblythe,
Tony Romo is no spring chicken. He's getting up there in age by football standards. Any team that signs him should know that even if he stays healthy, which is a big if, he probably got two good years left before father time kicks in. He may get a one year or maybe two year contract. If they think he could be a good mentor for a team's young quarter back, then maybe a three year contract. No matter what contract he ends up getting, there is no way he's going to get top dollar. Which ever team gets him will and should get him at a discount.

Don't know if he'll get top dollar, but a lot of teams who lack a QB might look at him as the final piece of the puzzle for Super Bowl contention. If so, the faster he gets hold of the playbook, the better. If a team is interested they should move quickly, not wait until a few weeks before the season.

@Real Music,
I too am chary about Romo's problemo on breakage, but how much of that was his fault? if I ever knew, I now forget.
I actually like Romo, the little that I know him.
Meantime, there is no such worry about the apparent everlasting Brady.
I think I like Garoppolo, and might enjoy him being traded as a good thing.

@Region Philbis,
I hope Jimmy G gets traded.
He deserves a shot at a starting position.

@George,

i'm arguing with someone on FB who thinks he needs yet another year of being Brady's backup...

@Region Philbis,
I don't think that's what JG needs.

I'm sure it would make the coaches feel more comfortable.

A story making the rounds speculates that the Cowboys are holding on to Romo in order to keep him out of a Texans uniform. It says he likely does not want the Texans to claim any Cowboys fans and contend for most popular Texas team. In other words, it's all business. It also suggests they may offer him to the Broncos through a token deal that bypasses the open market.
