Is the verb "to debate" intransitive? I can't find any example of direct object to make it transitive.

@timur,
I thought about " debate with you") but, yes, you gave me clue, thank you)))
What question can I put for the verb to make it transitive - debate what about? Debate about? Debate with whom? Or debate whom?

@timur,
But what about this example: The students debated which novel they should read or The students debated what book to choose for the next class?
Do I understand this correct that they debate What about? Debate about book choice. Is this verb in the given sentence transitive or intransitive?
