Hi,
Active: I ran the obstacle course in record time..
Passive: The obstacle course was run in record time by me. Is this OK?
Active: Susan will bake two dozen cupcakes for the bake sale.
Passive: Two dozen cupcakes will be baked by Susan for the bake sale. Is this Ok?
Are these two passive sentences acceptable?
@SeanR,
Acceptable is subjective. It depends on the situation. Generally, active voice is preferred, especially in the sentences like the ones you've provided where we can clearly identify the subject of the sentence. Passive voice is usually used when the subject is hard to identify or name, and even then, active is typically preferred.
