I'm a new homeowner and just found this little box in the living room closet. It has 2 wires running to it and was slightly warm to the touch. Upon further inspection, it looks like there was smoke coming from it at some time as there are smoke stains on the wall.
Home was built in 1982-83.
Can someone identify this? And is it necessary or can it be removed?
