Hi
I have external GPU on my laptop and on other forums I read that if you set pci port to gen 2 speeds, that It might become unstable. Now i get display driver error randomly. ok now for the electricity part.
i have mini fridge near me. whenever i hear a weird clicking sound (I'm not a fridge expert) my display driver shuts down. So in short the signal from egpu to my pc gets disturbed whenever i hear that fridge sound. Also sometimes when i switching my lights on and off it acts the same way.... resulting pc crash.
Can this be the old power supply issue ? How can this signal be so sensitive...
any thoughts?

The question was about how can switching on and off from electrical devices in your room affect PC signal..... I have no idea....
Like lets say you are watching TV, I turn lights on in the room or some other devices in the kitchen. Then suddenly your TV picture goes black for 3 seconds.... lets put it this way ))))))
That signal from external graphics card to my laptop is very fragile so is there anything that can be done to prevent it from being interrupted from outside....

I heard I might isolate HDMI cable with aluminum foil but I'm not sure....

@tolyaba,
Is the pc on batteries or plugged into the wall? Is the graphics thing plugged into the wall, and does it have a battery or other power option if it is?

The only thing I can think of, is put the laptop on battery and the graphics thing on battery and see if it still happens. If it doesn't, then it was interference from your power line that is causing the problem.

I have a digital blood pressure meter that has a cord to the wall plus batteries if you want a cordless operation. I was getting crazy blood pressure readings when it was plugged into the wall-in fact, the blood pressure readings varied considerably from room to room when I used the power cord.

I switched to battery mode, (only 3 AA batteries), and the readings became much more consistent. The batteries last a long time, and I get 'em cheap at the Dollar Store anyway, so I haven't used the corded option for several years.

If the external graphics thing has to be plugged into the wall, then use the laptops own graphics capability for awhile when the laptop is on battery power and see if it still happens.

The problem is that I use my laptop without my battery (it died long time ago) its a 6 year old thing Very Happy
But still a beasty 2670qm i7 processor that's why I purchased external GPU to keep up with the modern games.
My last hope is to buy a new power supply. This one I'm using comes from a 10 year old machine. Will update tomorrow. But this is damn funny, 2 out 5 times I touch my light switch monitors goes off....... that's the most weird thing I have ever seen. If it doesn't help I think I need to refund my external adaptor (((

@tolyaba,
Tol, turning anything on or off creates a spark that generates an rf signal which can sometimes mess up a nearby gadget or one on the same circuit. Of ten a capacitor connected across the contacts of the of the switch can dampen this effect

Ehm I have external adaptor with graphics card which is connected to my laptop. This adaptor is powered by external dedicated pc power supply.
The same power supply also powers my graphics card(6pin)
So where should I put capacitor.... and how.... any guide ?
I wrapped the whole cable which goes from GPU to laptop with aluminum foil
connection seems much more stable now. I let my pc on overnight see if it crashes. But it still reacts to sparking from light switch when I do it on purpose ;D
Maybe I should get those wall protector things..... ((( not sure if it helps. Thx for answers)

Noticed something new....
I bought new power supply.
When I put my graphics under load aka start a game it makes electricity zoom noise...like transformer (zzzzzzzzzzzz) which is I guess not so good.
I'm so lost now. Maybe I just should give up on egpu project and buy a pc ;S

@tolyaba,

Best bet--if possible--might be to solder it right across the switch. I'd suppose something from 0.01 to 0.5 uf @, say, twice its line voltage

There are wallplug gadgets that will place one right across the line tho I'm not sure that's the best way. But please get some advice from a buddy who knows about this sort of stuff
