Plural or apostrophe on special words?

Reply Tue 24 Jan, 2017 02:13 pm
I am constantly referring to technical terms and words. I would like to know the correct way to refer to a word in the context of something technical, that is not a dictionary (real, English language, or however that get described) word in the plural sense. For example, I am working with a word commonly used in Git that is “treeish”. So how would it be correct or recommended to refer to more than one of them? Thanks

If treeish is a noun, you would probably use treeishes for the plural. Using an apostrophe for a plural is almost always wrong.

@pctechtv,
Tech, no offense but 'Git' has mebbe a dozen meanings, while it isn't clear whether the term in q to be pluralized is 'treeish' or the Git word used in its place; whether it's Brit or US 'cause there might be a diff

@pctechtv,

then almost hasta be an adj

No offense, Chtv, but I'm still in the dark. Did you mean to say, 'To be clear, I mean The Git, the version-control software'

Then 'a part of Git' must refer to a digital word (or group thereof) that can be described as 'treeish. '

My first reaction (after about an hour of confusion) is " 'treeish' words"

Your typical idio, however (me) might not know what 'treeish' means

I don't think the OP knows what 'adjective' means.

@dalehileman,
In the context of what I am writing, I think that the audience will know the word. That is a good point, though. It makes me even think more about my goal of being well understood. Thanks
