My hair is mostly gray and I have it colored: a medium warm brown base with blonde (foil) highlights. It doesn't look anything like the photos I show the stylist. I want nice golden highlights, but they are practically colorless. It seems that my gray hair is just bleached and not lightened with color, and that's why it's so blah. Taupe - not golden blonde. What do I need to ask for?

Once you change your hair colour to a brown base, the blond highlights as the brown fades, will have a grey look about them, this happened to me as well, therefore I changed back to being blonde, with brown highlights, worked well.
