I would like to ask you a question. If I provide some a list of certain examples and then I want to cite the source in the brackets at the end, should I write "the examples are taken from AuthorX" or "examples are taken from AuthorX"?

As in:

1. Such variable spellings are relatively common in English: air stream, air-stream and airstream, bread bin, bread-bin and breadbin, car wash, car-wash and carwash (the examples are taken from AuthorX).

2. Such variable spellings are relatively common in English: air stream, air-stream and airstream, bread bin, bread-bin and breadbin, car wash, car-wash and carwash (examples are taken from AuthorX).

You could include, or omit, "the", as you please.
