Hi and Happy New Year.
Can anyone help me correct this sentence? Should it be say or saying?

I have heard my high school friends say/saying that they were just going to make an effort in order to pass the English exam.
Thanks

Both are OK; it depends on what you mean.

If you heard them say this IN THE PAST, USE say.

IF THIS IS CURRENT OR CONTINUOUS TALK BY YOUR FRIENDS, USE saying.

@tmorgan,
Morg you might be interested to learn from one who's seen and done many of 'em, the speedreader if not many in general are shaken by two 'ing' 's

Also you don't need the 'that' that's too much for just chat in the hat

I'm sure tho you will pass with flyin' collo
