Thank you. This has been rather interesting.
I didn't know about Jewish HaSatan and the Christianity thing, @trevor
I agree with you that there are some things which still remain unexplained. You can say it's going to stay like that forever or that we may find out about them someday.
@Edgar, I agree with you that exorcisms could be deception. Or psychologically speaking, if a person believes that an exorcism might cure them, then it just might.
@Patches, if a trained psychologist tells their patients they're possessed..that's just disappointing, in my opinion. Psychologists aren't supposed to do that.

Not just an opinion.

It can be shown that some mental illness can be presented as "possessions"

Attention seeking and gullible people have fallen for "healings" forever.

Where is your evidence that possessions are real?

@heyidc,
The patient already knows they are possessed and they consult the priest who brings in a psychiatrist to witness the exorcism.

@Patches,
Your logic is frightening.

If God is all-powerful and perfect can he make a stone so heavy that even he can't lift it? When you get the right answer to that question all the rest of your questions should be answered.

Psychiatry doesn't know whether demonic possession is real or not. Research into psychotic disorders merely "implies" that it is a "brain disorder" and all in one's head. The truth is that evil spirits do exist and are the cause of schizophrenic symptoms.

Please provide an example of a successful exorcism.

I tried exorcism. I lost 12lbs, lowered my blood pressure and I generally feel better.

You have to be consistent though.

So you can count me as a believer.

@Patches,
Evil spirits cause schizophrenia like a gun causes murder.

The onus is on you to prove that something is real, not on me to show it isn't.

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof.

When God comes on CNN and performs a miracle for all to see I will first ask to see how this technology works and who made it.

Until then, all you have is a very poorly written book and anecdotes.

Case closed.

But you are the one who brought it up. Where is your evidence that demonic possession isn't real? A fair debate requires evidence from both sides.

@Patches,
That's not how it works Patches.

First off, if you go back to the source quesition, I was addressing something a different poster said, not you. I didn't "bring something up" I don't confuse that easily.

Second, this isn't a debate.

Third, one doesn't have to provide evidence something doesn't exist. You have have to prove it does. You might as well ask someone to prove Santa Claus doesn't exist.

Satan is the Christian adaptation of Judaisms HaSatan. HaSatan was created by Jahweh as a messenger and servant.His purpose was to test men's faith in Jahweh. 'Job' passed the test. Jesus passed the test according to the Bible.
Christianity adapted HaSatan (Jahwehs servant) into Satan (Gods enemy).
The NT has Jewish beliefs adapted for Christianity.

It does take a lot of faith to regard the various books of the Bible as a coherent whole.

@Patches,
That picture is upside down. It is clearly photographic evidence of the Great Pumpkin (you can see his little legs is you turn the picture around) taken with night vision.
