I went to the store and to church or I went to the store and church

Either is correct. When you restate the "to" you are using parallelism. Using parallelism can really help if you have a complicated sentence and want to avoid ambivalence and ambiguity. For example, some churches have a store inside them. Did you go to the "store and church"? Or did you go to two separate locations and entities? Or, if you were saying this sentence out loud to someone, where would the emphasis be based on your situation? For example, "I went to the store AND to church." You are saying, I went to both locations. If you do restate the "to," you could also restate the "the," for even more clarity. "I went to the store and to the church." Just a thought.

Ns, "store and church" stops the speedreader who immediately pictures a Stater Bros where customer and clerk pray together before bagging
