I am curious if anyone can ID this beetle. I am in northern California. It looks very slightly iridescent. I am asking because my dog ate one and his mouth all of a sudden started foaming very severely. Once I rinsed his mouth out he has been fine. I don't think there are any toxic beetles in CA but I just want to know! Sorry about the blurry photos. The beetle is about 3-5cm long.

Looks like a round black beetle (Trimarcha Intricata).

That looks like it! Thanks. The dog is fine today, I did read that they secrete a toxic substance against predators.
