Boy Nat, that's really a good q. I presently fix/polish a rock using spar urethane. However there are a half-dozen or other clear spray substances

Exposed to the sun some remain clear and shiny; but there's at least one such coating that gets dull and brown; so we need some input from the experts! Meanwhile I can only suggest Googling to a rockhound site

So; any rockhounds around

@dalehileman,
There was a very interesting tv show yesterday on collectible rocks from Spain. However, here's a link for people interested in rocks and rock collectors.
http://geologicalwonders.com

The Spain rock show covered many of these rocks.

It's amazing to see those rocks develop into perfect squares.

@dalehileman,
We must be very old to find so much interest in rocks. Our older son had interest in coin collection when he was a teenager. We still have many of his collection in our safe. LOL

@cicerone imposter,
Cis it's a renewed interest inasmuch as...What will happen to all this gorgeous geology when I die

The kids used to help hunt rocks but pretty much lost interest upon maturity

@dalehileman,
I don't know how valuable they are, but if they can be 'sacrificed,' have them buried with you or give them to a school or museum.

@cicerone imposter,
Thanks Cis but in fact my BH takes them to her garden club show where sold, unpolished usu set beside a plant, polished used as bookend or if flat, hung on the wall. Since the specimens number in the tens of thousands I am hoping our successors continue the practice

Thanks for suggestions
