Last night a friend and I went to a woodworking class over at Millersville. As we drove north, the roads take these infernal switchback turns that were in place in order to skirt old property boundaries. SO, we would round a hill and briefly, heading East, the moon was this HUUUUUGE orange ball , It was the "supermoon" and an added "Ponzo effect" (when the full moon is close to the horizon,
It looked like we were going to get whalloped by our nearest neighbor. We had to stop and watch a bit. So we were late for the class .

Visual illusions are fascinating. I'm sure we get dooped frequently, but don't bother to really study some things that looks smaller or bigger to us based on our capacity to actually measure them.
The example you provided was a good one.
