Land Marks and how they were named

On maps there are two locations that are specifically named. I am curious to know how they were named and why. I first became aware of this from a USGS survey map. Here are the names, lat/long and a link to the USGS pdf. Thanks a lot for any help that may come my way. -D.M. Standard

Degrees Minutes Seconds: Decimal Degrees:
Latitude: 35°53'14" N Latitude: 35.887220

The Other name is QUAIL TOP

This could be an interesting topic, but real examples and explanations are eluding me. I will pass on one I saw in a work of fiction many years ago.

Someone asked why a canyon was named Sniveling Dog Canyon. Answer: A dog oncet sniveled up yonder.
