Hey guys, I have a couple questions about college. I'm nearing the end of my first semester, in which I was originally going to become a math teacher. This changed after I realized how much I enjoyed reading my peers essays, both to correct them and also enjoy their perspective on different topics. I also wrote well enough that I was offered a position as a tutor. My questions are
1. Is it rash to change majors like this? I'm really nervous about doing so despite being quite sure it's what I want.
2. Is an interest In producing theater necessary? My counselor seemed to imply that theater classes were necessary.
3. I still get nervous when faced with group discussions and whatnot. How can I get over that, or do you think teaching is different than stuff like that and I won't be as nervous.
The k you very much for your time.
@Kuester,
What is your current major?
In order to be a teacher, you need to have a strength in your subject matter as well as to be the qualifications to teach.
Depending on the level you want to teach English at, there could be benefit to some training in the theatre arts. That is in addition to the benefit you would get in terms of increased ease/experience as a public speaker/performer.
