Echo Boomers
(CBS) If you've ever wondered why corporate America, Hollywood, Madison Avenue and the media all seem obsessed with the youth culture, the answer is simple.

The largest generation of young people since the l960s is beginning to come of age. It's called "echo boomers" because they're the genetic offspring and demographic echo of their parents, the baby boomers.

Born between 1982 and 1995, there are nearly 80 million of them, and they're already having a huge impact on entire segments of the economy. And as the population ages, they will be become the next dominant generation of Americans

automation which the original boomers developed into a life-changing phenomemon and which today enslaves us....that which has made our lives easier has also served to take away our skills for dealing with them. We know more about the world than ever before, and yet rather than embracing it, we shun it in favour of living alone, remaining childless, and becoming doggedly conservative in our outlook. Baby Boomers were blessed with an abundance mentality and were fortunate enough to have the resources in the world to back it up. The children of the 'Echo Generation' live in a vastly changed world, where we have learnt that all things are scarce, from jobs, to natural resources, to human warmth and compassion. I despair for us and yet am inexplicably hopeful at the same time....however, while we live in a country that still looks to rest of the world to hold its hand, where we treat the most desperate and wretched who reach our shores looking for our compassion and assistance with both indifference and hostility, I wonder what kind of future we are making, both for ourselves, and for the next generation who may curse us in the same way many of us today curse the 'Baby Boomers' who came before us.
