what does (101) really means? I've seen it in so many website names, music videos. I just wanna know what it really means and some examples of how you could use the "101" phrase or whatever it is.
It comes from the common labeling system of college level courses.
Freshman courses are 100s, Sophomores are 200s,
101 means basic, elementary or introductory as in the college course descriptions for freshmen classes: English 101, Biology 101, etc.
Upper level courses generally are higher numbers: Junior year historys are Jeffersonian Democracy 303; The American Novel and the Institution of Slavery 351.
In the videos, movies or writing, the use of 101 is a sly use of humor,
"She was a little slow, she had to take Life 101 three times."
"Yes, it's official," he said to no one but himself as the blonde turned away, "I am flunking 'Meet New People 101'."
"Are your kidding me? The guy is brilliant, he takes courses that are like Astro-physics 10,012."
