What's the best way to get help identifying the subject in an old daguerreotype?

I have a case with an interesting looking man and his wife (2 daguerreotypes not ambrotypes or tin types). I know it's a long shot to id them but what could I try? There are no background clues but they look important. It could be an author, politician, or someone famous and I'd never know. Thanks.

Photograph them and post the images.
