I have colored my hair as long as I remember. It's auburn brown now. Do root jobs to cover grey monthly. Besides growing it out, how can I achieve this? My hair is very long and thick.

@Rosecox,
I've just finished the process after about 45 years of colouring my hair. I started by chopping off about 8 inches and having blonde hilites added. Then more hilites every 6 - 8 weeks for about 6 months. When I was back to a shoulder-length bob - with the ends faded auburn while the top was grey/silver, I had those dyed lavender/purple. It took close to 2 years to get the whole thing grown out - to shoulder-length silver.
