My future employer wants to conduct a background check on me. On my resume I have included the client name I was working for from my previous job. I just found out from my ex-employer that I shouldn't be revealing the client name to anyone or mention it on my resume (It was my mistake, I should have confirmed with them before putting down the client name on the resume) and that they won't verify that during background check. Now, that my future employer knows the name of my previous client name will he call my ex-employer and verify with him the client details?
Usually I will be asked to provide my employment and educational details before beginning the background check. So, can I discuss this with my future employer and request them not to inquire about my client with my ex-employer?
Pls help!
Are you talking about a REFERENCE?
Then it was perfectly OK to list your client's name as a pleased customer of yours.
But - you should have asked that client if you could put him/her down as a reference.
Background checks are usually done for felony convictions or if you are on the sexual predator list.
