I was walking on a dry shale rivet bed and found a round metal 'medallion' encased in a piece of thick sandstone about 1 inch diameter. I stepped on it and the object broke out of the rock. right away I could tell the object was metal and seemed man made. I took it home and sanded a section of it to reveal a yellowish metal like bronze. its non magnetic and the yellow metal sparkles in the dark background. I put it in vinegar to clean it up and seems to be responding to the cleaning. Does anyone know what kind of metal it could be and how could a man made metal object be encased in a rock.
@craigmc777,
I hope farmerman finds your forum. He should be able to answer your question(s).
I suggest you look for him on other forums. He's involved in many.
@craigmc777,
Are you certain it is not a bullet?
@seac,
no its a harder metal i would send some pictures if i knew how
@craigmc777,
it could better be described as a coin about 1/4 inch thick, it seems to have an inside ring and maybe some type of picture or pattern.
@craigmc777,
Some European coins have inside rings.
@cicerone imposter,
I'm sure sanding and polishing enhanced the value.
@roger,
That's not always true. I would take it to a coin shop and ask them about it.

Alas Craig many many of us have so commented. Uppermost is my hope that the process might be simplified
