I am replacing the compressor in my refrigerator and have had great difficulty brazing copper tube to the new compressor because the "stubs" on the compressor are short resulting in the compressor acting like a huge heat capacitor/heat sink. Two questions: 1) Can I silver solder them in place with a solder that melts around 475 deg F instead of brazing them with Staysilv 15 that melts around 1475 deg F? and 2) Why don't compressor manufacturers put longer tubes on the compressors to facilitate brazing - is it just to make the shipping boxes smaller?
