Every generation had its favorite dances. For me, as a teenager, it was the Fox trot, and the Lindy. Later on the mambo, and the cha-cha-cha got our tushs moving to the Latin beat. Between husbands, in my middle twenties, I loved to do the Frug.
What dances bring up sweet memories of your youth? Anybody have any interesting stories about you and your favorite dances?
I went to college during the punk rock era, so I did a lot of pogoing. This is why my left knee is fairly well shot.
The last time I (we) danced was at my cousin's wedding in August. It was mainly very loud Russian disco (no, I ain't makin' that up). Can't quite recall what we did, but I imagine it was none too graceful. Sad, as I took dance in High School and enjoyed it immensely. No chance to practice it now, as hubby is not much of a dancer at all.
Horizontal polka.... Those were the days.
I don't remember having names.....
Were there names for dances in the late 80's? Running man, maybe...
I had a certain kind of quasi-Indian arm-waving undulating thing that was how one danced to reggae. That was fun.
Other than that, yeah, some mosh pit stuff.
Boy we are covering a lot of territory here Phoenix. I started dancing with my cousins to Bill Hailey and The Comets and then I never stopped. I still go dancing but these days it is two steppin mostly.
Oh baby! We did the Twist, the Twine, the Dog, the Pony, the Jerk, the Boogaloo, the Penguin, the Drop, the Four Corners, the Jed Camplett...we danced and danced.
Gotta know what the Jed Clampett is...
Wish I could show you, homey.
The Shag and East Coast Swing. West Coast Swing if I have a patient partner.
