It appears to be utilitarian rather than decorative. Does anyone know what it is? Thanks in advance.

Well, it seems to be an antique glass thermos..

Some of them were used to infuse tea.

We have some kerosene lamps that have been in my family since before the advent of electric lights. This looks a lot like a chimney used for a kerosene lamp.
