I am just getting started with electromagnetism and have been looking into capacitance. I've seen the elastance matrix defined as the inverse of the capacitance matrix, but I've been unable to really motivate it. Does the elastance matrix have any significance independent of the capacitance matrix? And can I find the elastance matrix without having to first compute the capacitance matrix and take its inverse. Thanks!
