@Inmind,
1. "Now it's time I (1 introduce) my husband to you," said Eleonor to the Hardys when she saw Robert (2 come) forward.

2. Robert shook hands with Lady Hardy,and then turned to Sir Frederick, who gave him a puzzled look. " Haven't we met before?", he asked. "It's doubtful we (have or had) ever (3 come) (or came) across one another," Robert said (or answered) cooly.

4. At table she found it strange that Hardy (5 looked) at Robert as if he (6 were trying) to place him.

5. But when guests had gone she had a feeling as if the visit (7 had upset) her husband.

6. "I wish you (8 wouldn't have invited) the Hardys. or 6. "I hope you (8 don't invite) the Hardys again. or"I wonder whether it was you (8 who invited) the Hardys. But you'd better never (9 do) it again," said Robert.

7. "If I (1 knew) (or if I had known) it would upset you, I wouldn't have (11 invited) him (or Mr. Hardy) ( to visit us. But why, Robert?"

8. "Eleonor, I'd rather (like you to?) you (12 know) what I know about Hardty. I can only wish (or hope?) you (13 take) my word for it that he is not the person (14 to invite or to be invited) to our house, and I'd much rather they never (15 turn up) here again."

But Mind, it isn't yet entirely clear whether Sir Frederick is a third visitor or whether he's actually Mr. Hardy. But thanks for the opportunity to figure it all out

I did, didn't I

@saab,
Saab, you're welcome. While some of us resent a request to do homework, alas I sometimes find it a challenge

Is Sir Frederick actually Mr Harvey

@dalehileman,
I think it is OK to help, but I think they should do it themselves and then with hints corrects the mistakes. I am so oldfashioned I think helping with homework is to get the kids to think themselves.
