Can someone clarify statistics-correlation? I am not understanding how it is negative and positive correlation. But how do you derive to the conclusion?

@elucas,
There are many Google references. Here is one aimed at 15 yr olds.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/gcsebitesize/maths/statistics/scatterdiagramsrev2.shtml

NB In hypothesis testing correlation coefficients are calculated by representing data sets as vectors and calculating the cosine of the angle between normalized vectors. Thus a 'positive correlation' will have a value close to 1 (angle 0) and the null hypothesis will be that that this value is a 'chance event'.
