Earn To earn or deserve reward.
To earn anything is usually taken as synonymous with deserving. Therefore is must indicate something ethically desirable. And it is impossible to define what is earned or deserved in the abstract, as a thing obvious in itself. it is essential to have in place a scale or measure. The obvious scale is that of the capitalist free market, in which whatever sells and makes a monetary profit earns the person involved a share or all of that profit. The subtlety of this is that there is no appeal to obvious ethical values, with an assumption made that people buy what the need and want and that must be virtuous. What this does is reduce the world to billions of individuals pursuing their own desires. This is anarchism. If it were not then they would be cognizant of social needs in the long term. That could though be an authoritarian social system, serving a 'god' whether symbolic or human. If it were not serving such a 'god' nor serving narrow self-interest, then it would be at least an attempt at altruist society, however ill defined.
