I got called ma'am a couple times when I first went to college with my very long hair and oversized heavy metal t-shirts. I didn't look much different from the lady in the picture.

At least the '80s were over by then and I didn't have my hair permed anymore.

I immediately added whiskers to my appearance (which continues to this day). Problem solved.

So the person behind the 7-up is a girl?

I figured they meant the one with the long hair (that's who I meant when I said I looked similar at college).

But you have a point. I guess I don't know who they meant.


EDIT: I see that the one with long hair has painted nails. That's something that I never did despite my long hair and '80s perms. I think the one with the long hair is the female.
