Religion [Islam] Ethical Values [and Mr Trump}
There is nothing in term religion or Islam etc, that equates with an ethical value of end value. Within religion there will be moral codes, and ethical values, and it is these that must be evaluated. The Mr Trump wholesale opposition to Islam, sets itself against the wholesale acceptance of extreme Liberalism. Neither being rational. If all forms and sects of Islam had ethical imperatives inimical to altruistic democracy, then Islamists could indeed be banned from a democracy. What is more realistically true is that Islam, in this country, has unsavoury aspects which may need to be outlawed if persuasion is not enough.
But what is most inimical to democracy for religion in general - although with probable exceptions - is its authoritarianism that suppresses rational debate, other than after 'faith' has decided what to believe.
