Obedience to God and 'Extremism'.
There is a distinct and fundamental difference between religions or how particular religions are perceived. It relates very closely to the almost arbitrary violence and so called 'extremism' and terrorist attacks of today. It is in the perception of God. He who must be obeyed and cannot be questioned. There is a different sort of Christianity - and presumably other religions - that equates God with ethical values. And also a sort of God that equates with personal autonomy and desire. Each one of these defined in contradiction to the others.
A religion such as Islam may protest that it requires people to be caring and abjures violence, but this may still be a requirement in obedience to God. That is like a Mother Teresa who - reputedly - did her work out of obedience to the Pope, rather than out of altruism. If the motive is suspect it may easily be corrupted to obedience in other directions.

@RW Standing,
yes well, hate violence and always love and be considerate ; but kill repeat offenders of rape, or corrupt politics.

you kill pillagers and repeat offenders of theft. You go to war with people who want to rape your children and wives.

but be peaceful otherwise.
