IF the adjective "teddy bear" were named after the American president Theodore Roosevelt, why don't we capitalize its initial letter?

It's no longer a proper noun because it no longer refers to a specific person who goes by that name. Instead, it's a common noun that refers to a class of inanimate objects.

because it's not copyrighted or trademarked term now in the mainstream, it's now a generic term.
