To outdo or to out do?

Which one, if not both, are grammatically correct. When search people use both, but outdo is a registered word in the dictionary. I have always thought of it to be more of a phrase not a single word. I am in an argument about it, and would appreciate help towards the situation. I personally think it can be both.

@Dango916,
It is definitely "to outdo..." the correct way. However in many cases vast use of incorrect spelling or grammar can be adopted to common use.
