Still unravelling the mystics of the cryptic. Two to go, both driving me nuts:

19a: Writer to sail off east? Fine! Have PE-A-I-E. (Thought maybe 'penalise' but doesn't make sense).
55d: Combines uniform qualities on the outside. Have U-I-I-S.

PENALISE is correct. 'pen' is a writer, plus anagram of 'sail' and E from east. To fine is to penalise.
Combines uniform qualities on the outside. UNIFIES

Thanks Cherrie. Have taken all that on board. Also should have realised Penalised was correct as Fine was staring at me. Duh.
