Can anybody please help me with this one, l have been struggling with it for two weeks, and made lots of mistakes, only hope they will accept my entry as you can see on it how much erasing l have done, these clues look simple enough but my brain just will not function,so can anyone please help?

ous (??T?E) l know it means empty but cannot for the life of me see where l have gone wrong.
