This is a silly question because it is based on the size of the meteor. If it is a relatively small meteor. To give you an idea of what I mean by small, it would be anything the side of a car or smaller. It would burn up in the Earth's atmosphere because the velocity of the meteor when it comes into contact with the particles that make up the Earth's atmosphere slam into it at the same velocity it is moving. This creates a tremendous amount of friction and it causes the meteor to heat up. Even solid iron meteors can melt due to this friction.

So anything smaller than a car in size would completely melt before it impacted the earth's crust.

I can already sense that you would assume that anything larger than a car would thus be apocalyptic. You would be wrong there too.

It also depends on where it hits. If it lands in the ocean it is not as bad as if it strikes the ground.

Although a meteor larger than a car will survive melting completely but the remaining chunk is super heated so when it strikes the ground it is relatively soft so these meteors tend to pop like a water balloon when they hit. They do create craters but they also tend to destroy themselves.

The only real dangerous ones are when they are about the size of a foot ball stadium in size. After they melt the size is roughly that of a car and when they hit they don't explode like a balloon, they tend to make massive craters. Unless they land in the ocean.
