Charlie Hebdo and Free Press
Whatever the magazine publishes is not cause for a massacre if we live in a altruist democracy.
The idea that there is absolute freedom of the press is itself dangerous. There are no doubt laws in France as well as Britain that do restrict that freedom. Such as so called 'racist' slurs.
The fact that the Editor has the freedom to decide what is published, and not the gunmen, only signifies that he has freedom within the constraints of law and prosecution. A racist slur would probably result in a court case. Something satirist editors are used to.
Altruist democracy has or should have the freedom to discuss the limits of press freedom. What the limits of satire should be with respect to Mohammed in particular, and other religious figures.
Altruist democracy is a balance between freedom and social responsibility.
But, if it is not possible to say Mohammed was wrong, in some way, or entirely, or that much of the Koran tends to fanaticism, if reason is given for that, then even debate is dead. Which is unacceptable.

@RW Standing,
Very very very sad. Cabu and Wolinski are (were) among the greatests. And Charb was very much on the front line on the Mohammad cartoons thing. He wrote a complete biography of Mohammad in cartoons...

We're fucked if this leads to a cycle of violence. Let's hope not.
