I suspect it's so called because it drops the voltage a bit and I suppose it also acts like a small cap
….but thanks anyhow Char 'cuz I'd never heard the term before. I presume the voltage drop is achieved usu through the fwd drop of rectifiers. Not much capacitance there but I'm supposing a dropper cap could be a very complex assembly containing a cap connected across the semi
