The Happy Medium
Pragmatism is a value that relates to Altruism and indeed Tyranny but only minimally to Anarchism. Which does not mean tyranny will not become ossified and incapable of adaptation, for if it is clever it may adapt environmentally and other ways, whilst retaining its control of the plebeian workforce.
Pragmatism, signifies that the most altruistic society will need to work with the imperfections of both the world at large and humanity. Therefore any absolute condition of altruism will be both a pipedream, and probably only definable to a margin.
But the Happy Medium for many people will appear to them to be a social condition that is not at any extreme, but balances one with the other. And they are correct in that, it is a matter of degree.
The critical point is that the median should be treated for what it is, not an ideal in itself, but a compromise between antagonistic opposites, direct and tangential.
It is well illustrated in British and general world society today.
Much that is done by government, in welfare and social provisions, is very much towards the altruist ideal.
At the same time much of industry and commerce is tyrannical, sycophantic, and greedy.
Much of what passes as Human Rights is lopsided and even anarchic, not being related to responsibility.
Altruism is at the focus of both freedom and responsibility, equality and diversity, etc.

@RW Standing,
I knew a happy medium once.

She grew into a not so happy large at one stage, but then discovered Atkins.
