ontology Engineering and Data minning

Am new to ontology engineering, so I think about creating ontlogy for all variables of financial models in my subject then use dataminning in predication

but I want to know

how to use ontology that i will create for all variables for the financial models in data mining?
what programs to use?

what is the use of the ontlogy otherthan putting all variables in one place?
