What is the common use of an expansion joint?
I believe the answer is decking on bridges, but i could be wrong.

I know, I know, but I won't tell.
@rhennicey21,
Expansion joints are typically used in systems that change temperature causing them to expand and contract. The expansion joint is a flex system that absorbs the movement so the structure doesn't buckle. Just google it and you will see plenty of examples.
The common use of an expansion joint is to connect two or more things such as structural members that change size, for instance as a result of temperature change.
