Do i need a surgery on my fractured ankle?

Hi! I broke my ankle about a week ago. The doctor wrote a report after i got my x-ray and CT-scanning results
"Comminuted distal right fibular fracture. Several small presumed
fracture fragments are in the lateral ankle mortise. Avulsive-type
fracture of the distal medial malleolus. Minimally displaced fracture"
He said that he recommends a surgery with screws to fix the displaced fibula bone and to take those small fractured pieces out of ankle mortise.
I have read a lot of different reviews about that surgery and post operation healing. And i am concerned if its better to do it in my situation or not.
My leg feels alright. i had it swollen the first few days after the injury, now its a little swollen just in ankle area. I don`t feel pain even when i move and it wasn't that painful since the beginning. I can move my fingers, touch my leg, rotate my foot and press it up with a little discomfort but no significant pain. I can not and don't really try to step on it thou.
I just want another professional opinion that will help me make up my mind
Here`re few links with X-Rays

There isn't anyone here that gives professional medical opinions. Best thing to do is get a second opinion from an orthopedist who specializes in the feet and ankles.

If it were my ankle, I'd definitely want at least a second opinion regarding surgery.

I had a bad fall last December and fractured three vertebrae and dislocated my pelvis. What was thought to be a sprained ankle that swelled up but didn't give me much pain, has turned out to be two minor fractures in two spots of my foot and not the ankle. It hurts a great deal now when I walk a prolonged distance on it. It has already healed up, improperly because it was not reset and immobilized when it was fresh. The only thing they can do now is give me cortisone injections in those locations.

I wish i had gotten a second opinion, but at the time I was in agony and the foot pain seemed minor.

Get your medical advice in a doctor's office, not on the internet.

@mariawolley,
You definitively need a second opinion. If a Traumatologist recommends a surgery it is surely because it is really needed.

The fact that you feel relatively well right now does not means that you are really ok. Some bones are not weight bearers so the can be injured without an important loss of function. This is the case of the fibula, the carpal scafoid, the 5th metacarpian, ioides bone. The tricky part of this bones is that may cause a cronic damage to the nearest joint. They can lead to degenerative destruction of healthy tissue and end up with really nasty complications.

Do not waste time on the internet with this situation. Better make an appointment with another traumatologist. Ask with peers and friends for a trusthworthy specialist. Do not waste more time taking such crucial desicions.
