I took my washable 5x8 area rug to the laundromat. It has a rubber backing I washed it with a powder detergent and no fabric softener. I dried it until almost dry and finished air drying it. My problem is that it now has a crunchy feeling to it and slippers or socks will stick to it when you walk on it. This was the first time I washed it. Did I damage the fibers and what can I do to restore the softness to it?

@Mar mar,
Sounds like the dryer was too hot and melted the rubber backing and fibers.

You may need to replace it.
