Alright, so if I'm selling something, and I reach an agreement with an individual but have to wait to validate their credit... is it formally or informally correct to say, "The item has been sold"? Even though no transaction has officially taken place and it's possible the credit won't be satisfactory?

@reality2014,
'sale is pending approval' works.

'Sold' is for when the transaction has completed and you no longer have the merchandise.
