How to donate my old car to the Government to get $1000 back? in SJ, CA?

I have an old broken car and I need to get rid off it. What is the requirements for the government to take and pay me $1000 back? a link source would be really appreciate it.

What Ragman said. Where did you get the idea that there is such a program? Somebody's been pulling your leg.

Now, if you donate your old car to a non-profit organization that accepts such gifts, you can write off the Blue Book value of the car on your income tax. But you won't see any actual cash for it.

Actually that concept was not from out-of-the-blue. Back in 2009 there was a gas-guzzler buy-back program. 'Cash for Clunkers' or Car Allowance Rebate System. It existed for one month from July 2009 to August 2009.

That program has long since been closed. No such program exists.

Even at that, the clunker in question had to be driveable and registered.

What a horrible subsidy for new car dealers and manufactorers.
