Water hammer is a specific plumbing noise, most it is caused due to your plumbing system's air chambers have turn out to be waterlogged. You can fix water hammer by turning off the water at the rear of the waterlogged chamber, opening the offending faucet and permitting the faucet to drain thoroughly.

It is just a noise related to your plumbing system, turn off water at back of the waterlogged chamber and get rid of it.

@pslam,
The easiest fix for this kind of knocking is to first turn off your main supply valve. Now, flush the lines by opening all of the faucets and flushing your toilets. Water can still leave your home through drainage pipes and this will ensure all of the supply lines are fully empty.

Once the lines are cleared, feel free to turn your main valve back on. It is as simple as that.

Well, Water hammer is hydraulic shock. Usually its sudden increase in water pressure in the pipes when there is a change in the direction or velocity of the water. You just shutoff water at back of the waterlogged chamber.
