@remonx6,
Google is your friend. So is Wikipedia:

@remonx6,
Perhaps OT, Rem, but when first proposed FM was thought infeasible for its extravagant sidebands

But are you still with us

While theory indicated that a frequency modulated signal would have infinite bandwidth, poor Edwin H Armstrong realized that only the first few sets of sidebands would be significant; the rest could be ignored. I say poor Armstrong because he eventually killed hmself by jumping out of a 13th floor window after years of patent battles with RCA. After his death his estate finally won, though.

@contrex,
Thank you Con for that report. It's knowledgeable folk like yourself who save me so much time scrolling Google

Specifically what do you suppose Rem would like to know about AM and isn't it annoying when OP contributor doesn't return to his thread

I wouldn't say I was knowledgeable, I have had a lifelong long interest in anything electrical and electronic (my father was a electrical power engineer) and in my teens I used to tear down tube radios for parts, and built a couple of one and two tube TRF receivers.

I can't imagine what he wants to know; how to do a school test I expect. "Plate versus grid modulation: discuss". It is annoying, I agree.

And one of them was a "super-regen". You win the bet.

@contrex,
Oh yes Con, superregen, remember it well. Very strong hiss when not tuned to signal

That's one thing they don't get right in period movies, the mush.

@remonx6,
Rem where are you, how can we help

AM In class C requires just a whole lot more power of its modulator, if that's of any significance. Otherwise use linear power amplifier, but not very efficient
